Josie Long is one of the most respected comedians of her generation. She started stand-up at age 14, and went on to win the BBC New Comedy Award in 1999. She has performed stand-up around the world, with her 2016 show Something Better selling out two weeks at the Soho Theatre followed by two weeks at Barrow Street Theatre (New York). Josie has appeared on The News Quiz, Just A Minute, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Skins, 8 out of 10 Cats, Drunk History and Russell Howard's Stand-Up Central; in 2018 she wrote and starred in her first feature film, Super November, to rave reviews.

Jonny Donahoe is an actor, comedian, playwright, screenwriter, broadcaster and musician - his one-man show "Every Brilliant Thing", (which he co-wrote and originally performed), has played more than six hundred times over four continents, including five months off-Broadway at The Barrow Street Theatre. The show was filmed by World of Wonder and screened as a special on HBO. He was nominated for a Drama Desk Award, Lucille Lortel Award and an Off-Broadway Alliance Award for his performance.

Comedian, actor and writer John-Luke Roberts is the British writer on Maximum Fun's hit international podcast "International Waters", and the creator of BBC Radio's "Spats". His sitcom "Bull", co-written with Gareth Gwynn, aired on UKTV Gold and starred Robert Lindsay and Maureen Lipman. John-Luke has written for Have I Got News For You, Newzoids and Nevermind the Buzzcocks, and created 6 solo shows for the Edinburgh Fringe between 2010 and 2018 which have all been critically acclaimed with Soho Theatre transfers. As an actor he has appeared in Channel 4's Babylon, Radio 4's Welcome To Our Village, and played Graeme in the world tour of hit parody play Graeme of Thrones. He is co-founder of the Alternative Comedy Memorial Society.

Each day of this five-day workshop will be split into three sessions:

First up: finding your comic voice. We don't get to decide the way in which we're funny - we have to let an audience tell us. John-Luke Roberts will use a bunch of exercises (many taken from the world of clown training) to help you find out what's funny about you, specifically. You'll learn to listen for the laugh, and use it as the best training tool you have for being funny. This part of the workshop will also serve as the warm-up for the day, to get everyone mentally and physically alert for the day ahead.

Next, nuts and bolts writing. Jonny will lead this part of the workshop - a practical guide to writing comedy from how a joke works, to how to tell a story, to fully blown scripts. A mixture of theory discussion, and writing exercises. There'll be time for collaboration and discussion, and opportunities to present bits of writing and have them critiqued by the group.

Finally, stand-up and stand-up persona - Josie will focus on the basics of stand-up, from simple practical tips for getting on stage and holding a mic, to discovering and honing your persona, and constructing a set.

There'll be time set aside each day for writing and reflection, and a chance to present anything you've been working on. Post-workshop, you will benefit from performance, release, broadcast and publication opportunities at Fuse Art Space, CAMP Radio, through our stable of in-house publishing imprints and record labels, and across our network of partner venues and organisations.
